There are many types of casting materials, most of which are based on cast iron and cast steel. However, there is one material that we have all come into contact with to some extent, and that is stainless steel. Next, the author will introduce to you the forging of stainless steel precision castings.
Stainless steel precision casting is different from other traditional industries. It is a new casting process and is still in the development stage in China. Stainless steel is renowned for its high corrosion resistance, high-temperature resistance, good heat resistance, high resistance to acidic media, and high-temperature oxidation resistance. It has a very good advantage that investment casting has extremely high dimensional accuracy, the surface of the product is very clean, and stainless steel precision casting reduces the work of mechanical processing to a certain extent during use. However, for stainless steel precision casting, advantages and casting difficulties coexist. This is because the shrinkage rate of stainless steel is much higher than that of cast iron, and the shrinkage rate of castings and shrinkage rate defects are more likely to occur. So, what are the difficulties in stainless steel precision casting processing?
Precision stainless steel castings
When processing stainless steel precision castings, work hardening is very severe: due to the tendency to harden during cutting, when the processing tool is cutting the work-hardened part, it is easy to shorten the service life of the processing tool.
2. Stainless steel precision casting processing is prone to tool sticking. No matter what material the stainless steel is made of, it will have the characteristics that the chips are strong and tough, and the cutting temperature is very high.
3. Stainless steel is a material with high strength. During cutting, it undergoes plastic deformation and has a large tangential stress, thus resulting in a large cutting force. In addition, the thermal conductivity of this material is very poor. The temperature is only concentrated near the cutting edge of the tool and is relatively small in a narrow area, making it difficult to touch. Therefore, stainless steel precision casting is also the most headache-inducing problem for all steel casting manufacturers.
4. Due to the stainless steel material of the problem, the processing technology of stainless steel will lead to high tool wear. The material contains high-melting-point elements, cutting temperature, and plastic, which will cause the tool to wear out quickly, change frequently, and be frequently sharpened. This will also affect production efficiency and increase the cost of tool usage.
